[MAP02] finds himself in the past, jumping from time period to time period [MAP03] The marine finds himself in a post-apocalyptic future, in the ruins of what was once a beautiful temple, now overrun by swamp life. (details not explicit in game) This will later be revealed as the Temple of Light in the Halcyon. Player will meet Halif Swordsmythe, the 240-year-old Halcyonian dwarf here. Dialog will be engaged, and the dwarf will join your party for the next several levels. [MAP07] A new enemy has been sent to oversee the completion of the Tower of Babel (to offset the fates toward evil) -- you must climb the tower and defeat the enemy. At the end, another time portal is revealed -- you plunge through and pray it takes you home and... [MAP08] It does! You're back at the UAC base, but something isn't right. Either they took a long lunch break or... everyone's dead! You find the scientist who sent you on this mission crumpled on the floor, with a visceral wound that could only have been caused by some horrible claw. He murmurs his last words in your ear, "Go back in... its... not over... yet..." and then he dies without explaining what the hell went wrong. All you know is that the time line hasn't been restored, and you've got to go back into the fray yet again... (you have to beat a guardian to get to the portal) [MAP16] What is this? After much wandering, you have finally found yourself in a place still populated by humans. This place is called the Halcyon, and it is the final great stronghold of human resistance in this continuum. The people here are medieval in terms of technology and understanding of the world, and they maintain a culture based around the use and power of white magic. They are vehement followers of God and believe that they draw Holy power directly from his guidance. You're not one to argue, as they're more than willing to demonstrate their powers on you -- they believe you are yet another new breed of hellspawn. Can you convince them otherwise? [MAP17] You made it into the Halcyon, taking down several of their Clerics and Warriors in the process, but only to be ambushed. Simple execution would be too good for a demon of your sort, so they've thrown you into the Labyrinth, a terrible maze-like place built to mette out punishment upon heretics, hellspawn, and followers of Satan. At the end of your arduous journey here, provided you survive, you will face one of their most powerful warriors in battle. [MAP18] You escaped from the Labyrinth and defeated the warrior, but the open arms of your executioners awaited you at the exit. If not for some unexpected help from the missing sergeant from your time who wandered into the portal and became the commander-in-chief of the Halcyon Resistance, you would be toast in a serious way. They revere him because he claims divine guidance, and while you don't know whether its true or not, it wouldn't surprise you much in a world of hellspawn and white magic. As such, they have taken his word that you are not a demon, but are indeed the legendary Warrior of Time whose coming was prophesied to them long ago. It is said that the Warrior of Time is the only one who can reunite the three pieces of the shattered Ankh of Demon's Bane, an ancient holy weapon brought down from Heaven by way of the Tower of Babel. After it has been united, it is said the Warrior will lead the men of the Halcyon into the final decisive battle against the hellspawn. The responsibility is in your hands; failure will mean your death and the extinction of the human race. You are taken to the Temple of Light, a strangely familiar place, and there you must complete the ritual tasks ahead. [MAP19] The Ankh complete, you go ahead to the Halcyon Badlands, where the final battle is to take place. Hellspawn have already overrun this area of the Halcyon, and lay in wait for any soul to steal. The entire Halcyon Resistance will be here soon, and when they arrive, be quick to their assistance. While even their mightiest will join the ranks, only you bear the legendary Ankh, which is not only powerful in its own right, but brings courage to even the cowardliest of the warriors. [MAP20] Consummatum est. The hellspawn have been defeated, and the tides of battle have been reversed. The warriors of the Halcyon will have no trouble re-establishing a strong foothold over the entire world, especially as they are joined by other straggling bands of humans along the way. You know you can't stay here, however... something deep inside you pushes you on, as if though victory is not enough. And as you listen to your soul, you find its not. You want more. You want revenge. Revenge for every single human life taken since the invasion began that fateful moment on Phobos. The images that live inside your mind will never die, but they might be faded if only you can really put the hurt on Hell for good. While you destroyed the Inferno in the future, here it is intact. And as the Halcyonians pointed out to you, one of the hellspawn's first priorities had been establishing a gate to Hell. A gate to Hell's Past. This must have been Baphomet's final plan. If invasion had failed because of man's technology, then his death would not be in vain if it became a gate into an earlier time, where Hell could bring mankind to his knees before he ever made a stand. An uncontrollable bloodlust raging in your heart, you depart from the Halcyon for Hell's Gates and prepare yourself to descend into the abyss. [MAP30] Sending Satan's Second back into the abyss releases an unimaginable force. You cling to life and sanity in the hellstorm that ensues, praying to every god you've ever heard of as Beelzebub falls into the bottomless pit and is encased in burning ice once again. The final blinding flash of light subsides, and you see before you yet another time portal. Your mind reels as you think of what may lie ahead, but you manage to get up and make it through the portal to find yourself no longer in Hell. You're face down in a cold puddle of rain on hard blacktop. At first you think maybe you'll lay here for a while and just pray you're back home, but you're rudely jolted by the blaring of a truck horn. You manage to bend your stiff neck upward just enough to see the warm blue glow of the UAC logo outside the Terran Temporal Research Facility. A concerned scientist comes running from the building, wondering what the commotion is. You black out, and the next thing you know you're lying safe and sound in a hospital bed, with faces smiling down at you. It looks like after such a long, hard struggle, you've finally really won. The hellspawn are gone forever, the architecture of hell shattered by your vigilence, the powers of darkness supressed by the light in your soul. You drift off to sleep, assured that tonight you won't be haunted by the nightmares of your past. Meanwhile, centuries earlier... A magician blows dust off the cover of an ancient book, the inscription on the front reading "Necronomicon" ... He stops, looks around the silent library for a moment, and decides that he is alone. Hesitantly he looks at the exquisitely crafted seal on the book, and reaches out to break it. As soon as the seal is released, the tome flies open of its own will. The magician, stuttering terribly, reads from its pages, and suddenly a blinding light permeates all of his perception. He hears a dark voice promising him great rewards for releasing the powers of darkness pent up in the book, and suddenly he knows that this was no mistake. He would show his insolent peers that their petty white magic is nothing compared to the powers of unbridled evil. He would make them suffer for rejecting him as an untalented magician, and ultimately, he would overthrow the vile theocrarcy that he abhorred so much and seat himself as the rightful ruler he knew he was meant to be. This was his destiny! This was the alpha, and the omega. The beginning of new turmoil, and the end of a short-lived peace in the land known as the Halcyon...
